The White Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal are a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Vladimir’s Golden Gate and Assumption and St Demetrius cathedrals, and the monasteries and wooden churches of Suzdal. The Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve (vladmuseum.ru) runs them.

Getting there

By train from the Kursky terminal to Vladimir, then by road to Suzdal.

The towns

Vladimir’s Golden Gate and cathedrals; Suzdal’s kremlin, monasteries and the Museum of Wooden Architecture.

Stay a night in Suzdal: it is too lovely for a day trip.

Our advice: come in winter for snow on the domes.
