Kolomna, south-east of Moscow where the Moskva meets the Oka, keeps its 16th-century kremlin walls, its cathedral square and the Pastila Museum, devoted to the town’s apple sweet.

Getting there

By suburban train from the Kazansky terminal on Komsomolskaya Square.

The town

The kremlin walls, the Assumption Cathedral and the old merchants’ streets.

Buy pastila, the town’s apple sweet, before you leave.

Our advice: walk the kremlin walls at the end of the day.
